All eyes were on South Florida last week as Miami held it’s annual Swim Week. Press, bloggers, buyers and fashionistas, crowded the streets of Miami Beach as they made their ways to runway shows, trade fairs, pop-up shops and parties, that were all centered around swimsuits.
This year I got to attend fashion shows and events from Funkshion for the first time, and the island girl in me was beyond excited to see what the designers have in stores for us in 2017. Yes, these bathing suits will not hit the stores until next year. If you were following fashionayiti on Snapchat and Instagram, you already had a little preview of the fashion shows I attended which are: Beach Riot, Blue Life, Kai Lani, Ana Kosturova, Maaji, Monica Hansen Beachwear etc… to name a few.
So, recapping Miami Swim Week in general, here are 8 of the hottest trends that we will see in swimsuits next year:
Plunging One Piece
One piece suits are here to stay and this time the more revealing the better!
A less conservative halter tops were a favorite on the runways. Designers added a risqué side to the halter tops with creative and sheer cuts.
Designers went the extra mile to give us more creative designs with fun and slick cut-outs on both one pieces and bikinis.
Wrap Around Tops
This season designers played around with the basic triangle bikini top giving it a little “extra” with intricate ties and wraps on bikinis tops, bottoms, and one pieces.
Florals, tribal and ethnic prints, stripes and colors were not scarce on the runway.
This swinging and playful accent adorned some bathing suits and ever cover-ups, creating a hippie vibe for the boho girl.
Straps were everywhere on the runways evoking a playful sensation.
Because a beach attire is never complete without a fun cover-up!

Scrolling through our Instagram feeds it’s clear that the hottest and biggest hairstyle of 2016 is the double French/Dutch braids also known as the boxer braids.
Just like the name suggests, the hairstyle was first inspired by female boxers (Hilary Swank rocked them in Million Dollar Baby). Easy and low maintenance, the boxer braids aren’t a new favorite in the gym or in the ring. They are however, quickly becoming a new favorite in Hollywood and in the social media world.
Celebs like Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry and Hailey Baldwin to name only a few, have been showing off this hairstyle on social media and what’s more, this hair trend has even been seen on runways during Fashion Week!
If you know me, you know I’m always braiding my hair especially in boxer braids. Besides being convenient, (as they help keep my hair out of my face when I box) they are also stylish and look good with both casual and evening outfits. Funny enough, as I was leaving the gym the other day someone asked me if the braids were the new trend. Well, it looks like the trend is catching up here in Haiti as well :p
Boxer braids spotted in Haiti:
How to get the boxer braids?
Start by parting your hair in two. Then Dutch braid each side from the top while adding strands of hair left and right as you make your way down. And voila!
70’s The groovy and retro style of the 70’s are back more than ever this Spring. From Studio 54’s jumpsuits, to the hippie chic artsy vibe of boho glam, to yes even bell bottoms, the 1970’s nostalgia dominated most runways.
The print for this Spring is the “grown-up” gingham, with a fresh spin to the classic picnic pattern. From Altuzarra’s sweet baby blue, to Oscar De La Renta’s oversize prints, designers stayed in check.
Kimono literally means “thing to wear”. The Japanese inspired dress is as comfy as it is chic. Dresses, jackets, tops, the built-in judo belt is everywhere this season.
If you thought Denim season was over, well you were wrong! The American favorite textileis still present and now more than ever, in pants, dresses and jumpsuits!
Put on your military jacket with you this Spring! It’s all about the Army Wives
Fringes – This Spring is all about movement!
Navy: New Black – Loving the navy hue this Spring!
Coachella. Not only a music and arts festival which brings over 150 thousand people in the sunny and dusty desert of Indio California, but also now a fashion festival. Over the las few years, Coachella quickly became the #1 most fashionable festivals where fashion statements are made by celebrities, bloggers and your average fashionistas. Today, Coachella is also a destination for young Hollywood, fashion designers and bloggers who gather for brunches, parties and shows hosted by fashion brands.
Crop tops, maxi skirts, cut offs, and head pieces pretty much sum up Coachella style. This indie-rock festival however is one for all kinds of style and fashion. Here are some ideas and inspirations.
Hippie/Boho Chic This is the traditional Coachella style. There is no such thing as “too hippie” so go ahead and embrace your inner boho glam.
Style tip: Crochet is always a good idea. It is both chic and fun, and is perfect for the “Summer during Spring” atmosphere at Coachella.
Not so Boho It’s okay if Boho isn’t your thing:
Prints Geometric, floral or tribal, prints are spring’s favorite trend.
Headpieces Headpieces are Coachella’s favorite accessories.
When it comes to Coachella there is not such thing as too much accessories. Stacks of rings, body chains, funky glasses, big hats and flash tattoos …. they are all welcome!
It’s finally spring! For most of us anyways (We’re looking at you, dear readers in Canada). Spring is the time to embrace the most lady like frivolities. Skater skirts, fun vibrant patterns, killer orange lipsticks are all a part of fashions most colorful season. As everything thaws out, our spirits are lifted and what better way of showing that than by ditching the see of black and grey we stuck to for the last 5 months?
A trend we’ve seen almost on every Spring/Summer 14 runway: pretty pastels in mint green, lavender and blush pink.
Yes don’t give up on your gym routine just yet, crop tops are not going anywhere!
Ladylike and preppy florals à la Blair Waldorf.
Full Skirts More ladylike trend with this voluminous silhouette.
Sweatshirts No longer for the gym only, this trend is as chic as it’s comfortable.
Suits are not so boring when patterns and colors are involved!
Whether a varsity jacket, a baseball cap or a tennis inspired dress.
The classic white button down shirt was seen on most S/S14 runway.
Wide-Leg Whites Making a come back this season are wide-leg pants!
